FAQs

Yes, online lessons (using Zoom) are possible!  With my former career in IT together with over two decades of online tutoring experience, I'm confident that the online sessions are productive, suitably paced, and engaging.  In addition, when the pandemic started, it was business as usual for me.

I often find that students find online session preferable to face-to-face.  During the Zoom sessions, we'll use a combination of screen sharing of Onenote or similar note taking tools.

A free trial session is offered for long term commitment for weekly tutoring sessions.  A free trial session gives everyone (parent, student and me) an opportunity to get to know one another in a low pressure environment and see if the travel is achievable or the online experience is acceptable.  Similarly, Sandra can assess the student's level and make recommendations regarding duration and frequency of lessons.  In the event that one-to-one tutoring isn't necessary, Sandra will recommend alternative resources.

  • A tablet or computer (if online!)
  • Calculator – find out which calculator is recommended by your school.  Otherwise, most large supermarkets and stationery shops stock calculators.  Look for the Casio calculator recommended for GCSE (should be approximately £10)
  • Drawing set for graphing and construction topics: (in clear plastic) ruler: 15cm (6in) and/or 30cm (12in) and protractor, and a pencil, a sharpener, an eraser, and a compass.

Most Maths tutoring sessions last 60 minutes, however, some students prefer longer.  Weekly sessions help maintain pace of learning.  Alternatively, I have an online calendar where students can book one-off slots.

Face-to-face lessons take place at my home.  Online lessons - anywhere with a reliable WIFI.

Yes, students can send me questions at any time and I will reply during my office hours. Students often snap a picture from a school book or whiteboard.
